Starts at 10 AM

10am-5pm: Intro to Black & White 16mm Film in the Home Darkroom
Led by Sandy McLennan
Motion picture film does not need to be sent to a lab; you can process it yourself and even at home. In this introduction to photochemical black & white image-making, you will understand how light energy and chemistry work to create images.
In the darkroom, you'll expose motion picture film without using a camera, photograms that are developed by hand. After learning the basics of shooting with a Bolex 16mm camera, you'll learn to process negative and positive images. Various processes and chemical manipulation techniques will be introduced so you'll see how darkroom processing can render a huge variety of looks to the same shot. And more importantly, you’ll learn how you feel about this work. To finish, we'll splice together all the film clips and screen them on a 16mm projector. We'll shoot video of that image on screen and take that movie home along with a detailed handout, film strips and a list of locally-available equipment/facility/workshop resources.
7pm - Secret Cinema
